Symp­toms, as signs and sig­nals of ill­ness, belong to the “night­side of life” (Susan Son­tag). They chal­lenge us phys­i­cal­ly or/and psy­cho­log­i­cal­ly, and oca­sion­al­ly will even appear in art before we are aware of it, leav­ing sub­tle clues from our sub­con­scious on paper. And so we wan­der through this unwant­ed ter­rain, know­ing that the next beast can wait around the cor­ner anytime.
